At the 68th meeting of the Commission for Europe of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), which was held in Sofia, Minister of Tourism and Youth of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Husein Memic represented the Republic of Serbia, as a permanent member.

During the meeting, the results of the growth dynamics of international income and tourist arrivals for member countries were presented for the first quarter of this year compared to the period before the pandemic, where the Republic of Serbia was at the very top of the scale in Europe. In the first quarter of 2023. Serbia placed second in Europe in terms of the growth of international revenues from tourism, and is in third place in terms of the growth dynamics of foreign tourist arrivals, compared to the first quarter of 2019.

The Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization, Zurab Pololikashvili, expressed the expectation that European tourism will return to the pre-pandemic level by the end of the year and that this time should be used for the transformation of the sector in the direction of strengthening human resources and new investments.

At the meeting, in which representatives of 40 countries participated, the current state of tourism was discussed, with a special focus on the further development of education, human capital, investments and sustainability.
